Kilrea-based Hutchinson Engineering is investing in new equipment to enhance productivity and support planned growth, including the creation of 57 additional jobs.

Founded in 1971 and currently employing 160 staff at its 60,000 sq ft facility, Hutchinson designs and manufactures high-integrity fabrications and sub-assemblies for various sectors, including crushing and screening, recycling, agricultural machinery, coachbuilding, and electric and hydrogen vehicles.

The investment includes a large-format laser cutter and new robotic welding systems, enhancing the company’s offerings to clients. Supported by Invest NI, the new jobs will pay above the North’s private sector median and contribute over £2 million annually in salaries.

Hutchinson aims to increase revenue to £30 million by 2026 while creating these quality jobs. In 2022, the company reported sales of £21.5 million (up from £18.4 million) and a pre-tax profit of £2.5 million.

During a visit to the Kilrea operation, Economy Minister Conor Murphy welcomed the investment, emphasising the importance of creating quality jobs in County Derry. He praised Hutchinson’s commitment to boosting productivity and its goal to achieve carbon neutrality by the end of this year.
