Workplace conflict costs the NI economy up to £1bn per annum. Late last year, researchers from the Centre for Employment Research at the University of Westminster estimated that the cost of management time alone in dealing with grievances was £10.1 million a year – or £955 per grievance. And that’s before we take into account lost time for the employees, sickness, resignations and recruitment costs, litigation and more, which brings the figure up to over £3,000 annually for each individual involved in conflict.
That same report found that nearly three-quarters of those who undergo mediation (74%) reported that their conflict had been fully or largely resolved. Clearly, mediation could save employers a huge amount of time and money.
The CIPD NI Branch has joined with the Labour Relations Agency, Mediation NI and Ulster University to bring this event to members based in the North West that will demonstrate the true value of mediation in helping resolve workplace conflicts.
