As part of Apprenticeship Week 2022- we’ve talked to some apprentices on their current roles and more information about their job.
Aoife McGlone
Q1. Name, company and current role and how long you have been working at your current company.
Aoife McGlone, Trainee Quantity Surveyor, 1 year and 5 months
Q2. – What and where you studied and why you chose the apprenticeship route
Q2. I previously studied at St. Pius X College Magherafelt. I now currently study a Foundation Degree in Construction Engineering with Surveying at Northern Regional College, Ballymena. I choose the apprenticeship route as it allows me to learn on the job, gain experience all while studying at the same time.
Q3. What top three things you love about your job
•Everyone is always there to help with any queries you may have, allowing me to learn new skills every day that I may not have learnt at university.
•The variety of the job means I am constantly doing new things and each day is a new task which keeps it interesting.
•The company is so welcoming and supportive
Q4. Any advice you would give to someone considering an apprenticeship route
I would recommend the apprenticeship route to anyone considering it. It allows you to gain so much experience that you will not get at university, which will be more appealing to employers in the future. You can apply what you learn in college in your everyday work. It allows you to earn while you learn, and you have no debt at the end of your course.
