In our recent webinar, Manufacturing NI Chief Executive Stephen Kelly was joined by Caroline Greenlee of Sustainable People Performance Ltd to explore why people, culture and wellbeing are critical to sustainable continuous improvement.
Drawing on more than 20 years’ experience in manufacturing and organisational change, as well as insights from her Shingo Award-winning book Why Care?, Caroline discussed the link between employee wellbeing, leadership, productivity and continuous improvement.
Her message to manufacturers was clear: You can’t have sustainable continuous improvement without caring for people’s well-being. Thriving individuals are the foundation of thriving operations.
The session explored:
- Why wellbeing is a strategic performance issue
- The impact of stress, burnout and disengagement on productivity and problem-solving
- The conditions people need to think clearly, collaborate and perform at their best
- The 10 elements of psychological wellbeing
- How leaders can identify pressure points and support their teams more effectively
As a follow-up to the session, Caroline has kindly offered to share a complimentary copy of the 10 Elements of Psychological Wellbeing Questionnaire, a practical tool from Why Care? with attendees.
The tool is a simple, practical way to embed some of the ideas from the session. It can be used personally to understand current strengths and areas for development, or with a team to start conversations about wellbeing, performance and what helps people thrive.
You can find out more about the book and access the wider Thriving Toolkit, featuring 17 practical resources for individuals, teams, leaders and organisations, at www.whycarebook.com. Purchasing the book also gives you access to the Thriving Toolkit.
Proceeds go to mental health charities, with Caroline’s share going to TAMHI, a mental health charity based in Northern Ireland that works with sports clubs and groups who use sport to raise awareness of mental health and resilience.
What is the Thriving Toolkit?
Within the Why Care? book there are multiple locations where tools are referred to. These tools are made available through the purchase of the book. Once registered, you will be e-mailed the Excel Workbook with all 17 tools mentioned in the book.
The toolkit includes resources for individuals, teams, leaders and organisations, covering psychological safety, purpose, resilience, psychological wellbeing, thriving plans and the social and technical elements of continuous improvement.
Although these tools are designed to assist you, by nature they are generic and may not be appropriate for your particular situation. While we hope these tools are useful, by using them you agree to the following:
– you are responsible for how these tools are used and any results
– the authors are not responsible for the results
– the authors will not have any liability relating to your use of these tools including any losses you may suffer (to the extent such losses can be excluded by law)
