Trade & Exports

Delivering industry wide and business specific support for evolving customs arrangements.

Northern Ireland’s manufacturing sector is the region’s most significant exporter — accounting for approximately 47% of external sales and 52% of export sales outside the UK. Despite ongoing trade changes, Northern Ireland is the only UK region to see continued growth in export value to the EU, with dual market access currently offering a net benefit to our economy and businesses.

Following Brexit, Manufacturing NI has been actively involved in discussions in Belfast, Dublin, London, and Brussels, ensuring manufacturers’ voices are represented at every level of key trade and export negotiations. We’ve played a central role in shaping responses to evolving customs procedures, rules of origin, and the regulatory requirements introduced under the Windsor Framework.

Looking ahead, it is vital that we continue to work collectively to anticipate and respond to global developments that may impact competitiveness, particularly around regulatory divergence and supply chain disruption.

Manufacturing NI will continue to advocate for practical, business-friendly trade solutions, while supporting members with timely news, resources and market updates via trusted partners. We’re committed to providing the insight and guidance manufacturers need to adapt, export and grow confidently in a complex global trading environment.
