Green Economy
Working with government, education and industry to support industrial decarbonisation.
Northern Ireland’s Climate Change Act sets ambitious net zero targets, requiring significant investment from industry to meet these goals. To achieve this, long-term policy stability and strategic support from government and its agencies is essential – enabling firms to invest in low-carbon technology and capitalise on our unique dual market access.
Manufacturing NI is committed to helping the sector transition towards a more sustainable, low-emissions future. We advocate for practical, business-friendly policies, funding and infrastructure that support decarbonisation without compromising competitiveness. From shaping climate legislation to influencing strategic investment decisions, we ensure manufacturing has a strong voice in building a greener economy.
As a member of the advisory board for Invest NI’s Industrial Decarbonisation initiative (ID-NI), we support efforts to improve energy efficiency and cut carbon across industry. Participating firms have already identified £28 million in potential savings, with sector-wide adoption estimated to deliver £448 million annually.
Manufacturers are vital to achieving net zero. With the right conditions, the sector can deliver clean growth, high-value jobs and regional investment. Through strong collaboration with government, industry and agencies, we’re working to build a decarbonised, future-proof manufacturing sector that delivers clean growth and competitive advantage.
