Doherty & Gray
For 70 years, Doherty and Gray Ltd. has been based in Ballymena, County Antrim, nestled near the Glens of Antrim.
Founded in 1954 by Patsy Doherty and Bobby Gray, Doherty and Gray Ltd. started humbly and has since grown into a major employer, becoming integral to the community. Drawing from decades of experience and a dedicated team, Doherty and Gray Ltd. offers the highest quality products, including the Gold Star and Prima Valley lines.
Doherty and Gray Ltd. takes pride in its work with Northern Ireland’s agri-food sector, nurturing long-standing relationships with generations of local farmers. The company’s founding vision—a dedication to providing retailers with high-quality beef and lamb—has guided its growth and remains central to its identity today.
Patrick Doherty (Patsy) and Robert Gray (Bobby) founded Doherty and Gray Ltd., bringing together Patsy’s experience as a cattle dealer and Bobby’s expertise as a WWII Rationing Officer. Established in 1954, the company now holds the distinction of being the oldest existing red meat company in Northern Ireland.
In 1987, Doherty and Gray Ltd. acquired Richard Hull’s, now Hull’s of Ballymena, and relocated to its current site on Woodside Road in Ballymena. Since then, the company has invested in purpose-built facilities, including state-of-the-art offices completed in 2010.
Today, several Doherty family members remain actively involved, including Brendan (Managing Director), Seamus (Retail Director), Terence Doherty (Procurement Director), and Frances Doherty (Operations Director). With deep roots in Northern Ireland’s skilled agri-food community, Doherty and Gray Ltd. values the networks and friendships forged over years of commitment.
