During apprenticeship week 26 to 30 April 2021, there’ll be a number of virtual events taking place. Events will be hosted by a range of stakeholders including local councils, employers, Further Education colleges, universities, private training providers and others. Where will it take me
If you’re a student or teacher interested in finding out more about what it’s like to be a construction apprentice, the CITB (Construction Industry Training Board) will be showcasing a number of case study videos on their social media channels from Monday 26 April to Friday 30 April.
During the event you can watch case study style videos about new and current construction apprentices.

The CITB (Construction Industry Training Board) will be running a week-long social media campaign from Monday 26 April to Friday 30 April promoting construction apprenticeship and celebrating current apprentices.
The campaign will include a variety of apprentice video testimonials, graphics and photographs shown across CITB social media and website.

The apprenticeship takeover
From Monday 26 April to Friday 30 April, companies in the Manufacturing and Engineering Growth and Advancement network (MEGA) will be given access for the day to MEGA’s social media platforms to promote apprenticeships.
This event includes:
- The company ‘apprenticeship ambassadors’ getting access to MEGA’s social media to live stream a pre-agreed and planned story and
- apprentices will promote their day-to-day fun and meaningful experiences to potential apprentices

Northern Regional College are hosting an online information event on Monday 26 April from 9.00 am to promote apprenticeships, answer questions and provide more information.

The Big Apprenticeship Event
Southern Regional College are hosting ‘The Big Apprenticeship Event’ from 11.00 am Tuesday 27 April to Thursday 29 April.
This event will include a pre-recorded panel discussion and you will hear from:
- business, councils and education
- Northern Ireland’s top science employers who are recruiting for September 2021
- current Level 2/3 Apprentices and Higher Level Apprentices
- Apprenticeship and HLA employers who are recruiting for September 2021
There will be a daily Q and A chat from 1.00 pm to 3.00 pm and 6.00 pm to 8.00 pm from Tuesday 27 April to Thursday 29 April.

Transport and automotive apprenticeships – virtual Q and A session
As part of Northern Ireland Apprenticeship Week, Transport Training Services (TTS) will be hosting a virtual tour of their training facilities, followed by a virtual Q and A session with a panel of existing/past apprentices as well as tutors and staff.
The event will take place on Tuesday 27 April from 7.00 pm to 8.30pm and will include the following:
- an opportunity for young people, parents, schools and employers to find out more about the various transport and automotive apprenticeships available at TTS, as well as career progression opportunities in these sectors
- attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions during the event, but those questions that are submitted before the event will be prioritised
- the virtual guided tour will take viewers through the training rooms, workshops and computer suites of the TTS campus at Nutts Corner to give prospective apprentices and employers an overview of the facilities on offer

Transport Training Services – Women Auto Learn
Transport Training Services ‘’Women Auto Learn’’ event will be hosted by a former female TTS apprentice, now a qualified vehicle technician working in a leading local car dealership.
The event will take place on Thursday 29 April from 6.30pm to 8.30pm and will include:
- an introduction to to general car maintenance aimed at young women between the ages of 16 to 24
- hands-on training on how to maintain a car, including how to carry out a full vehicle health check, as well as learn how to do basic tasks such as checking oil levels, changing wiper blades, topping up fluids

Higher Level Apprenticeship in L5 Leadership in Children’s Care, Learning and Development
Belfast Metropolitan College are running an event promoting their Higher Level Apprenticeship in Childcare on Thursday 29 April from 4.00 pm to 5.00 pm.
- The session will provide an overview of the HLA in L5 Leadership in Children’s Care, Learning and Development, curriculum overview and course structure
- The session will be led by Jill McWilliams who is a current manager in a day care setting and teaches the programme part time at Belfast Met
- Jill will be joined by a second year student who will give an insight into her experiences studying while working full time in the sector

Disability Action are posting a range of case studies on their website highlighting the journey of participants with disabilities into apprenticeships.

Queen’s University Belfast will host a panel of participating employers including PwC and Farrans and students to discuss the current HLA level 6 and 7 programmes and the future of HLA programmes at the University.

Accounting Technicians Ireland is hosting a virtual open day for potential Higher Level Apprenticeship applicants on Thursday 29 April from 5.00 pm to 6.00 pm.

Bring IT On LIVE! Spotlight on IT apprenticeships and foundation degrees
Bring IT On are hosting a live virtual event on Tuesday 27 April from 10.00 am to 12.00 noon, which will focus on the exciting IT apprenticeships and foundation degrees available from Further Education colleges in Northern Ireland.
