Since 1 January 2021, HMRC has operated a temporary easement allowing traders to start and end Transit movements in Northern Ireland remotely from their own premises by emailing Border Force rather than reporting to a government office or an approved authorised consignor or consignee.
From 5th April 2021, operators will no longer be able to follow this process.
Operators will then have to start or end a Transit movement by reporting to a government Office of Departure or Destination and following the recognised transit process.
Alternatively an operators can become an authorised consignor / consignee to start / end movements at their own premises or engage the services of an intermediary or use the Trader Support Service (TSS).
To find out what you need to do and what preparations you need to make to be ready for this change, please see the guidance.
