Engineering Sector Masterclass
Thursday 20th October 9.30am-4.00pm
Buswells Hotel, Dublin
InterTradeIreland have developed a network of some of the island’s most successful entrepreneurs with the objective of using their skills and expertise to assist growth companies. These entrepreneurs have agreed to dedicate some of their time to help businesses like yours. The support from the entrepreneurs involves hosting masterclasses with small groups of companies including one to one sessions and follow up support. Our hosts on this occasion will be John Concannon, Managing Director JFC Manufacturing and John Toner, Joint Managing Director WIS Ltd.
John Toner is 47 years old and is Chairman and Joint Managing Director of Williams Industrial Services Ltd (WIS), Northern Ireland’s largest Environmental Engineering company. His other business interests include another Engineering company TOT Technical Applications (NI) Ltd and he is a joint owner of a leading local restaurant and entertainment complex, Barnabys which located just outside Ballyclare, Co Antrim.
John joined WIS in 1993, and took part in a MBO of WIS just 18 months later in June 1995. Along with his MBO colleagues, he has been instrumental in the growth of WIS, from just 22 people to more than 185 engineers, technicians and support staff. He has held previous positions with GEC Alsthom plc, and was Regional Sales Manager for Ireland prior to joining WIS.
A family-owned business, JFC Manufacturing Co Ltd was set up in 1987 in Tuam, Co Galway to supply specialised plastic products to the agricultural industry. The company has since grown to employ 200 people with about 90 of those at the Tuam plant and the others in the UK, Holland, and Poland and now sells to a variety of sectors worldwide, including construction, healthcare, recycling, chemical, catering and marine. Exports account for 60 % of the company's total sales with sales offices in Britain, Holland and Poland. The story of how this Irish firm has expanded from humble beginnings in Tuam in 1987 to its present international status is a story of dogged determination by its Managing Director, John Concannon, his wife Patricia and their staff.
The first part of the day will involve group discussions and include a brief overview by each participant company. Issues covered in this session will be decided by the companies attending. The afternoon sessions will focus on one to one sessions with the hosts. Each individual company will avail of a one to one session with one of the host entrepreneurs. The session will conclude in the afternoon with each participant company giving a brief overview of follow up actions agreed with the hosts.
Places on the masterclass are limited to 8-10 attendees and will be allocated on a first come first served basis. Please let us know by 31st August if you wish to attend. Note that there is NO CHARGE to attend the masterclass.
